Santa’s Steam Adventure

Our graphic designers dig into the archive to find inspiration for our Christmas posters.

It’s that time of the year again when tickets for our Santa’s Steam Adventure go on sale. Since the summer, we have been working hard to create a new magical adventure for you and your little ones to enjoy.

After working through a number of binders and gills with thumbnails of the poster collection, our in-house Graphic Designer, Rob discovered some vintage Christmas posters, which inspired his decision to revamp our Christmas artwork. We have so many wonderful festive designs within our collection, which can be viewed by request from Search Engine. Here are a couple of Christmas posters which we found:

After looking through the various designs, Rob came across this British Railways (Southern Region) ‘Christmas Greeting’ poster from 1960, which depicts a cartoon Santa Claus and two reindeer riding a steam locomotive.

This poster was perfect to promote our upcoming Santa’s Steam Adventure, as although it has a quite retro design it also has a modern feel to it. We also love the fact that the poster looks like it was made out of paper cut outs and in our modern world of computer aided design it’s hard to achieve these handmade qualities.

In order to create the design, Rob had to remove the existing wording and replace it with the words we required to promote the event. After a couple of days we received the finished design. What do you think?

This design is going to be used on our posters, leaflets, advertising and even on our tabletalkers in Mallard Café>and theDining Car, so have a look out for them over the coming weeks!

We have a vast range of posters within our collection including ones of bacon sandwiches! What’s your favourite poster within the collection?
